Firefox 1.5 Final released
Yup. Heard it. It’s released. Get it from, http://www.mozilla.org/,It’s 5 MB in size. It’s more speedy now! :-D I will be adding “Affiliated with Banner soon” ;-).
OneCare Live Beta released to Public!
Yes, OneCare Live Beta is released to Public. :-D, I am already part of the Beta ;-).
Windows OneCare Live has been in what we call “managed beta” since this summer. That meant that it wasn’t widely available — it was limited to a set of beta testers so that we could get their input and improve the service to release it more broadly. Well, we got LOTS of input! And I’m excited to say that today we’ve hit our next release phase — Windows OneCare is going into consumer beta.
What does this mean? We’ve been able to incorporate the feedback from our beta testers and improved the service so it’s ready for more and more people to use. For newcomers, this means you can now download the beta directly from http://ideas.live.com and avoid the beta nomination process we had in place earlier in the development cycle. One caveat – the quality of our customers’ experience will always be more important than the quantity of testers. So as we scale up there may be times when we direct people to a temporary waiting list; these pauses will allow us to see how we’re doing and assess our readiness to scale to the next level.
Also, while there is great complexity behind our service and user interface, the average Windows OneCare Live customer really only needs to care about one thing: get green and stay green. Now we know there are many advanced users out there (lots of you on this blog…), but our goal has always been to ensure all users can keep their machine in a good state. To help customers “stay green†and avoid worrying about protecting and maintaining their computers (and actually spend their valuable time doing other things) , we’ve added some great new features since earlier this summer that we believe translate into getting your machine “green†quickly and easily. Here’s a look at the most requested features that have been added since this summer:
* Backup to external hard drives
* Scan files or folders with mouse right-click
* Automatic scans of files received via MSN Messenger
* Improvements to the Windows OneCare Help Center
* Automated assistance in uninstalling products that conflict with Windows OneCare
* Integration with Microsoft UpdateAs always, there’s much more to come. Please keep sending us your feedback – we love to hear your comments and suggestions. We’re cranking out improvements to the service all the time and truly appreciate your input.
PS — In addition to functionality, many of you have been asking about service expiration and pricing. For now, we’re continuing to improve the service and you can use it at no cost. When the final version of the service is ready to go, we’ll let you know by sharing the final pricing details and giving you the opportunity to be some of our first subscribers. Stay tuned.
Windows Live Mail Beta is updated! to M4!
Yes, you hear right. I woke up this morning and logged in my Live Mail Beta (new version of Hotmail), to see that it’s version is updated & the changes were visible. Here is a little of a review by me about it, about the new features in this version. You will find the thumbnails with each feature. Just click it & it will take you to the Screenshot’s bigger version. :-) I LOVED it before too and still love it. Noticed a little speed boost too. Every thing happens fast now. There was a “BUG” in it while replying to e-mails, I had reported it, perhaps others too, it’s not there now :-D. Suggested lots of other things too. I see 2-3 of them resolved in this version. It will be perhaps included in the upcoming updates?
This update is being called “Milestone 4″, “M4″.
Before starting about the new features. I wonder why they have not updated the TODAY page, which they updated with the last version! It’s still same old one :-/
-
Finally! It’s showing more e-mails at a time now. They were only a few. Now it’s 50 with a cool scroll bar. The reading pane was not fully functional as well, the e-mail would not come whole and there was no scroll bar for it, to move around in the e-mail. Now that’s present too.
-
In the older version, this option was there but not highlighted. When an e-mail is received from an un-known sender and is not reliable then it shows a bar and you click WHY, it tells you the reason for why it’s not being shown. According to Microsoft Team working on Windows Live Beta, the e-mail sent to you will pass through 8 checks, deciding about the nature of e-mail. If it’s safe or un-safe. It will even tell you if the e-mail is “Phishing” one, the one which will fool you off your money and personal details ;-).
-
Print the e-mail button appears now.
-
The reading pane can be switched on/off as the user desires. The panes can be resized now by just dragging them.
-
Right click on Junk e-mail folder or the recycle bin and “Empty folder” appears. You click OK for it and it’s done.
-
You start typing the person’s name whom you want to e-mail and it will get you with a LIVE list of matches from your Contacts list. It’s just cool!
-
Spell check…You heard right! You type a message and it will under line the spell mistakes for you :-). You right click to either select a correct one or Add it to Dictionary. :-) & It’s LIVE, without any piece of software to download!
-
It was only accessible through Internet Explorer, now other Browser support is added too. I only checked with Firefox. It’s working but lots of features are missing. One can only Compose and Read all the e-mails, the advanced functions are missing, like the reading pane etc. It shows you plain version.
