UBL Wiz – Prepaid Debit Card in Pakistan

Posted by The Patri0t 30 August, 2008 |

You heard that right! United Bank Limited now offers Prepaid Debit Cards in Pakistan, being called UBL Wiz by their marketing team. I think I can safely say that UBL is the first Bank to offer Prepaid VISA Debit Cards in Pakistan, I just hope it’s easy to avail.

As per UBL’s website, getting the card is as simple as filling a form and submitting it to any of the selected Branches of UBL. Their website Branch list is showing a great number of Branches throughout Pakistan but a note on the page says that is only available in the major cities like Islamabad, Lahore & Karachi. One can always call their toll free helpline @ 0800-11825 and inquire about availability in UBL Branch near you.

Issuance, reload and usage fees are involved but bravo UBL for starting yet another great service. It can be used for shopping on Internet as well, just like a Credit Card but it has to be activated for Internet usage and activation fee per session seems to be 100 Rupees per session. The fee might be “nothing” to “hell no it’s looting” us from person to person =).

UBL Wiz is Pakistan’s first ever Prepaid VISA Debit Card that provides the convenience, security and benefits of an ATM and Debit Card, locally and internationally.

More than just an ATM card, you can use your UBL Wiz everywhere VISA cards are accepted. Whether you are using it online, paying for petrol, shopping or dining, you are accessing money directly from your prepaid card, without having to visit the bank.

UBL Wiz is the 1st Prepaid VISA Debit Card in Pakistan. It is instantly available at selected UBL branches with the facility of re-load, allows you to spend online and at shopping outlets and withdraw cash at ATMs. It is also accepted at all VISA locations internationally.

All valid CNIC holders in Pakistan can own a UBL Wiz Prepaid VISA Debit Card. An individual can purchase up to three cards at a time on his/her CNIC – one of each category, i.e. a person can have a single UBL Wiz Ladies, UBL Wiz Teen and UBL Wiz Travelers card at any given point in time.

Muntazir, I don’t think so. You can confirm it from their toll free helpline @ 0800-11825

I tried to get this card…filled out the forms, gave them ID card copy, and an initial 10K deposit…

Then I waited for an hour while they ’searched’ for that card…apparently the card they assigned to me, they did not have in their possession…

So they said come back in a couple of days…so I go back after 3 days, and still no card…two weeks pass and still no progress so I head over to their branch…spend around 3 hours getting the old card blocked, and getting a new card issued…they said they would transfer my 10K which is associated with the old card to the new one, but 2 days later, still my balance in the new card is 0.

So people, ensure you don’t deposit too large an amount when you first try to get this card issued, you never know they may have lost the card they assign you before hand :|

I also noticed that they are terribly understaffed…while I was at the branch there was just one guy dealing with the customers, and out of the 3 hours I spent there 2 hours were spent overhearing other peoples complaints :D

also their toll free number no longer exists…

That is not true StillWaitingForMy10K; their toll free number still exists, it is 0800-11825

It’s a Bank you know. They can’t take your 10K unless you never got any receipt from them…

^ Their representative at the bank explicitly told me that their toll free number is not valid anymore because he claimed ‘all banks are cutting costs nowadays’ (yes he said that)…

plus I have tried calling them on it more than 10 times on it and I have always received a ‘number is not valid message’…

And I never said they took my money…I am just saying I have still not gotten it back…

Looks like I will have to go back to their branch yet again…and waste another 3 hours trying to get my money back…its turned out to be a massive PITA for me…

Mehvash Rabbani: Good for you but don’t spam.

I had also terrible experience, first i visited cant main branch Rawalpindi, i was referred to a lady, when i went to her it looked she is spellbinder and she is casting it to me…strange looking at me…. she said they are having IT issues and come after half hour then…at noon…i inquired to her whats the process, is it like credit card etc….at noon i came…she said they dont have the cards and its new product and it is just like credit card and it will come from karachi..i got confused, i went to other branch, man sitting there said yes they have cards and you can have it now, i said ok, i filled up the form and all, later he said IT is not working and he will call me after 1 or 2 days, after 2 weeks no call, i went to them again, no one there, guy took my number and still 2 weeks gone no call…poor service…
